National road 3 that connects Kampot to Phnom Penh is undergoing renovation and expansion as of this week, courtesy of a $200 million concessional loan from the Chinese government.

Project completion is expected to take around 2 years and will see the current 7 metre width expanded to between 12 and 24.5 metres.

“National road number 3 will become one of the most important roads in Cambodia, especially for tourists and for the transport of goods,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen during the opening ceremony earlier this week.
